Counselling

I am an integrative counsellor with a committment to understand and support clients at their times of hardship, providing holistic and compassionate care. One of the most important pillars of my work is collaboration, this means that I work alongside my clients to create a therapeutic relationship that helps them navigate their own journeys of self-discovery. To do this, I continuosly learn about and respect people from diverse ages, cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds. Everyone has a personal story to seek counselling, and I strive to help clients explore and make sense of their difficulties by listening attentively, intentionally, and facilitating self-reflection with the goal of promoting personal growth.

My integrative approach responds to my experience working in community settings, private practice, charity organisations, and education settings in different cultural contexts. The various contexts where I have worked have shown me the different needs of individuals and how important it is to understand how the context impacts individuals. My integrative work with clients also involves blending theories, such as person-centred, narrative, and cognitive-behavioural, which I have learnt at various stages of my career, both from a practice and research perspective, to create a tailored approach that meets each client’s unique needs.

My experience in narrative inquiry and arts-based research also informs my counselling practice. My research interests in identities, sexualities, and the everyday lives of LGBTQIA+ people have shaped my understanding of the complexities individuals face in their lives. I believe in creating a reflective and brave space where clients can explore their experiences and challenges. I believe in the power of knowledge and strive to accompany clients in their process of developing a deep understanding of who they are, so they can develop the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions and develop coping strategies.

I have worked with individuals from different backgrounds, cultures, and ages. I am bilingual in English and Spanish and can offer counselling in both languages, depending on your needs. I have experience working with LGBTIQA+ individuals, which is informed by my research focus on the everyday lives of LGBTIAQ+ people and my involvement in different projects with these populations. Additionally, I have worked as a Mental Health Mentor in a higher education setting, which has given me experience providing support to students experiencing chronic conditions.

Overall, my combination of research, teaching, and counselling experience allows me to bring a comprehensive and compassionate approach to my work as a counsellor. I am committed to supporting individuals on their unique journeys and helping them navigate the challenges they face. Together, we can work towards personal growth, resilience, and well-being.

I provide counselling services, both online and in person, from the south of Edinburgh. I am listed as a Practitioner Member of COSCA, which is the regulating body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland.

If you are seeking short—or long-term counselling and think we could work together, please contact me to inquire, and I’ll be happy to arrange an initial meeting.
